Aisha Augie-Kuta Ward Rounds

In Northern Nigeria, Women’s Participation in politics is rare and almost impossible to attain due to the numerous cultural and religious norms the people hold. Documenting the journey of Aisha Augie – Kuta’s story was very personal for TV Sense. She is the first politician to run for House of Representative primaries under a major political party in the region. And it allowed us to have a first-hand experience of the level of marginalization and stereotypes that need to be pulled down to forge women’s participation in
politics, especially in northern Nigeria.

She is the only politician that we documented to have campaigned in all the 22 wards of her constituency in Kebbi state. She couldn’t get past the Primaries, but she has made huge statements that have never been made in the history of women political participation in the state. This is just the beginning of her active political carrier. Look out for her in the lead up to the 2023 general elections.
